ICAL2024 Keynote | Anindito Aditomo, PhD

Broadcast Channel: Australia Council Air Date: 19 November 2024

Session Overview & Show Notes

‘Many of what I’m going to say will overlap with what Geoff Masters has concluded in this morning’s session. I hope this actually signifies that Indonesia is on our way to building a world-class learning system,’ opened Dr Anindito in his remarks at the 2024 ICAL.

Indonesia’s Merdeka Belajar has been quite successful in transforming an education system that is optimised for providing access to schooling, yet the ongoing homework is to make sure that students can learn something meaningful and relevant for their lives and future once they’re registered at school. Dr Aditomo also referred to UNESCO’s 2023 report titled ‘Reimagining our future together’ in his keynote, in which it described the redefinition of social contract in education and highlighted three contemporary challenges namely (1) climate change, (2) technological disruption, (3) social disruption, in particular the erosion of civil society norms. These three challenges need to be considered when we think about transforming education and learning.
